ACRA BUSH BALLAD AWARD
WILL LIVE ON WITH NEIL'S NAME
Bush Ballad ACA Award;  Neil Beeby had been a musician, he would have been a bass player or drummer – the engine room of the music that is often in the background – working without missing a beat and often not noticed until they stop playing – and you suddenly notice that something that was integral to this great music is not here any longer.
Neil’s passion for country music was well known and documented over many years. He forged strong friendships with many of today’s stars, but it was his unfailing and enthusiastic support and encouragement of the developing artists that helped so many along the Australian country music track.
Tamworth might be for many the heart of Australian country music, but there was a heart in Canberra that beat just as strongly, and we’ll miss his friendship, passion, humour, dedication, and most certainly his wonderful contribution.

Born in 1969, Paul Kelly began juvenile life of problems. When only 16 days old, Paul was the first baby to ever be fitted with a brain shunt, to try & halt the ravaging effects of Hydracephalus, brought on by a brain haemorrhage at birth.
Fortunately the experiment worked, & by the time he was 9 years old he had had a further 8 brain operations for shunt problems & renewals. Within 6 months, Paul was facing further trouble with chronic Scoliosis. The next  5 years  saw Paul have another 6 major operations tyo get his spine fused, from  top to bottom, to help save his life.  During one of his hospital stays of traction & immobility, Paul was given a cassette player & a Slim Dusty tape by his mother, which encouraged a very healthy interest in country music.Since then, Paul has accumulated a massive collection of country music memorabilia, & has surprised many people in the industry. For instance, part of the collection is a huge tribute to Slim Dusty, which has been acknowledged by several CM authorities as being  vastly extensive, & possibly one of the largest in the world.  Within this area, Paul has more than 800 press clippings, more than 300 photos, & over 500 autographs of Slim, Apart from 3 black Columbia 78's Paul has all recordings put out by Slim,  many interview discs,  lots of specially made articles signed by Slim, & a great number of posters, plus loads of other interesting things. Country music Doyen Peter Burgis has labelled Paul as a country music historian & "Slimdustyologist" which we think is very appropriate.Since starting collecting in 1978, Paul is still finding things & is also very grateful if people send him bits & pieces they no longer want. He is hoping to build a Country Music museum in the future, which will absolutely amaze  CM lovers with its contents. Amongst the huge number of posters, are several very old ones, advertising some of Slim's early concerts in 1954, 1955, 1956, 1964, 1965 & 1968, all signed by Slim himself. Many photos of articles in his collection were used in the assembly of the accompanying booklet published for the box set of Slim's "Man Who Is Australia" put out by EMI.In early 2004 Paul was asked by the producer of the "Lights On The Hill" special which was aired on National ABC TV to appear with some of his collection, with many of his photos  used throughout the programme.Paul was also asked by the Toowoomba Lions Club to have a display at their annual Hobby & Craft Show. The same week, regional ABC radio also did an interview with him about his collection. In all, Paul has done a lot of publicity for the Country Music industry over the years, which we are sure must be appreciated by the industry peers.Paul has got his 6th guitar fully autographed by Australian & Overseas artists. Many of the artists are very well known including Freddie Fender, Don Williams, Foster & Allen, Charlie Landsborough, Slim Dusty, Isla Grant, Don McLean, Stan Coster, Keith Urban, Topp Twins, Ted Egan plus lots more.In Paul's collection are some personally autographed photos of Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Dolly Parton, Buck Owens, Hank Williams Jnr, Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers, Don Williams, Loretta Lynne, Charlie Pride, Freddie Fender, Tanya Tucker, Randie Travis, Reba McIntyre, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, June Carter-Cash, Porter Wagner plus hundreds more.
We are looking forward to seeing Paul's  amazing collection asdsembled into a Country Museum, which we are sure will astound many  interested people.

After spending over 20 years breeding & exhibiting Corgis, & running hundreds of dog shows, making ceramic pieces is a much more leisurely way of having fascinating enjoyment. 18 months of learning & many seminars with overseas teachers,  preceded 8 days spent at a Teachers Examination, which was then sent to USA for marking. Consequently in September 1983, Shirley's Ceramic World was born in Gatton, Q'land, where it stayed till 1985, when it was resettled in Toowoomba, Q'land & still is today in 2007.The late eighties saw us include a craft gift shop, which contained all homemade crafts from many enthusiasts of dozens of different hobbies, including our large range of ceramics ware. Thus was the birth of Shirleyware in 1990 which still operates as an arm of SCW in Toowoomba today. In the early nineties, we began introducing a large range of  cows to the Shirleyware business, making it possibly the largest assortment of cow ware in Australia, in fact we manufacture nearly 200.For the Ned Kelly fanatics, the stock on the Shirleyware website are totally unique, except for the moneybox which is an old Australian mould from years ago. All the others have been made specially for the Shirleyware  industry , & judging by the public response, they are drawing phenomenal interest. All are made of Earthenware Clay ceramics, & hand painted individually, & the decals [pictures] on selected items have been especially designed & are copyrighted artwork. Only Shirleyware is the  place to get our iconic Ned Kelly's  as the werbsite shows. The Aquarium ornamental décor is made of earthenware ceramics also, & covered in non-toxic colours, & fired over 1000 degree heat, making them exceptionally hard, & have already been proven safe.
Please visit our website  www.shirleyware.net  & be sure to tell your friends.

History

In the latter part of 1988, a small dedicated group of country music lovers banded together to lay the foundations of The Adelaide Country Music Club. As a result of those initial discussions, and with much research and groundwork, the club was formed and subsequently held its first meeting at the then West Torrens Football Clubrooms in the early part of February 1989. The club has continued to hold monthly shows ever since, and each February celebrates its birthday.
After a period of successful meetings here the decision was made to transfer to the Tubemakers Hall (now the SA Canine Assoc.) at Cromwell Rd., Kilburn. Many happy and memorable meetings were held at these premises over a number of years, and it was with a feeling of deep regret the decision was made to leave, very simply because the club outgrew the hall. And so in April 1996 the club moved to the Function Centre of the SA Greyhound Racing Authority at Angle Park, where it continued to hold its monthly meetings until the final one there in January 1999. Although it was a most luxurious venue it didn't really suit our purposes, so on the club's 10th birthday we held our first show at our current venue, The Slovenian Club, at 11 LaSalle St, Dudley Park.

Operation

The club is managed by a committee of 12 members, properly elected in accordance with the club's Constitution and Rules, at an AGM which is usually held in July or August. The committee meets monthly and is divided into several sub-committees, e.g. attendance and membership, catering, etc.
Entertainment

Club shows feature a different band each month, and over a twelve months period members can expect to see several interstate acts, the cream of local talent and a good variety of 'walk-up' acts. Apart from the regular monthly shows the club also periodically hosts touring interstate artists.
Encouragement
Of special significance to the club is 'The Len Wakefield Memorial Fund'. The purpose of this fund is to assist younger talent with proven ability, to further their career in country music.
The late Len Wakefield, together with wife Lorraine (currently the club's entertainment officer) was one of a band of pioneers of country music in this state, and was one of the group of members who initially formed this club. When Len lost his battle with cancer in July 1991 the A.C.M.C. established 'The Len Wakefield Memorial Fund' as a lasting tribute to Len's contribution to country music.
Each year an awardee is selected in accordance with the objectives and Rules of the fund.

Get This Grain for Better Blood Pressure
By RealAge

This Week's Tips
The Coffee Hour That's Best for Blood Sugar
5 Keys to Making Healthy Changes
Grab Your Foot When You Feel Stressed
Get This Grain for Better Blood Pressure
Search Cream of Wheat, or oatmeal for breakfast? If you want to drop your blood pressure, go for the oats.
In a study of folks with high blood pressure, eating soluble-fiber-rich whole-grain oats every day caused a significant dip in BP readings. In fact, some people's pressure dropped so low that they needed less blood pressure medication.
Frosting on the Oats
First things first. Never change or stop your prescription medications without express instructions from your doctor. But a bowl of oatmeal in the morning may be a wonderful thing to add to your blood pressure management plan. In the study, a diet supplemented with oats was not only more effective than wheat fiber at slashing blood pressure readings but also helped control cholesterol and blood sugar. That's quite a powerful package of heart-protective benefits for one little grain. (Take this printable heart-healthy shopping list to the store with you.)
The Proof Is in the Grains
To get the amount of oats that the study participants got, you need only about three-fourths of a cup of whole-grain oatmeal at breakfast and an oat-based snack later in the day. Make it happen with these quick and easy recipes from the RealAge Recipe Finder:
Overnight Oatmeal: If you're pressed for time, make this recipe the night before for instant morning gratification.
Banana Steel-Cut Oatmeal with Cinnamon: For something worth the wait, make this scrumptious recipe when you have a little more time on your hands.
Pecan and Toasted Oat Nuggets: Throw these treats together, and pop them into your mouth when you need an afternoon pick-me-up.
